Ten men were arrested on suspicion of smuggling in the municipality of Vila do Bispo. The arrests resulted from an operation aimed at combating the illegal trafficking of fuels and other products.
During the operation, authorities seized two vehicles used to transport the illegal goods. Fuel constituted the largest part of the seized material, with a total of 214 jerricans of intercepted fuel.
In addition to the fuel, 10 drums of oil intended for boat engines were also seized. The operation also revealed the existence of two drums containing components used in engine maintenance, suggesting an organized illicit supply network.
The case highlights the smuggling activity in that region of the Algarve, where the trafficking of fuels and products for boats represents a constant concern for Portuguese authorities.
