Meta's agreement and ANPD's requirements

Meta agreed to modify the design of Facebook and Instagram aimed at children and adolescents in the United States, in addition to paying a billion-dollar fine, to end a lawsuit filed by 47 American states. The agreement, considered historic, involved strategies that addict young users to the platforms.

The National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) in Brazil may demand similar adaptations to those assumed by Meta in the American agreement. Although the obligations established in the US do not apply in the country, the Brazilian agency has the power to determine equivalent changes based on national legislation.

The Digital ECA, a Brazilian regulatory framework, has points similar to the requirements of the agreement in the United States, which strengthens ANPD's position to pressure Meta for similar changes in Brazil.

The edition also highlights an interview with the new president of the STJ, Minister Luís Felipe Salomão, in addition to the increase in reports of electoral harassment in the workplace and actions for political gender-based violence.

Data centers advance without national water and energy caps and Sines projects 1.2 GW capacity

The National Data Centers Plan, approved by the Government in April 2026, aims to accelerate data center investments in Portugal without setting binding national caps for water or energy consumption. The most emblematic project is located in Sines, in the Alentejo region, where the Start Campus Data Campus plans to reach a capacity of 1.2 GW, with an announced investment of 8.5 billion euros. The first unit (SIN01) became operational at the end of 2024 with 37.5 MW, while expansion SIN02 will project 200 MW. The company claims to use seawater for cooling, eliminating the use of freshwater. The plan identifies 2026 and 2027 as strategic years to attract investment decisions from major international operators, with electrical power availability as a central condition for Portugal's competitiveness.
