Dead couple in Cullera trapped by suction in spa absorption system

A British couple, Patrick Joseph Tobin, 48 years old, and Thomasina Tobin, née McArdle, 51 years old, died in Cullera while using the jacuzzi of a luxury cottage they had rented to spend two weeks of vacation with their two teenage children.

The two were victims of an accident caused by suction in the spa absorption system, which trapped them and caused death. This type of accident is one of the most common with fatal results in domestic spas.

The incident forced manufacturers to introduce supplementary safety systems to prevent this type of accident from happening again.
