Iceland decides today in referendum whether to reopen accession negotiations with the EU

Icelanders decide today at the polls whether the island in the North Atlantic reopens accession negotiations with the European Union, in a referendum brought forward by the expansionist threats of US President Donald Trump. This is the second time that Iceland considers becoming an EU member State, after having submitted its accession application in 2009, following the financial crisis that devastated the country's economy. Negotiations formally began during that period, but the process was subsequently suspended. Iceland is a country with about 400,000 inhabitants.
