The lower deck of the Ponte Açude in Coimbra was reopened to road traffic after being closed since early August. Traffic had been cut off to allow the carrying out of works related to the construction of the Metrobus.
The interventions that led to the closure were related to the Portagem–Coimbra-B section of the Metrobus project. This project is promoted by Infraestruturas de Portugal, the entity responsible for national road infrastructure.
The reopening of the bridge represents the end of a period of traffic restrictions on this important route in Coimbra. During the time that the lower deck was closed, vehicles had to use alternative routes to cross that area of the city.
