Monthly payment rises by 70 euros in a 150,000 euro contract to be reviewed in September

Público29 August 2026 at 06:08

Since the beginning of the Iran conflict, interest rates used in mortgage lending have already risen between 0.5 and 0.7 percentage points. This increase reflects the rise in geopolitical instability and its impact on financial markets.

A 150,000 euro mortgage contract will see its monthly payment increase by 70 euros. This review is scheduled for September, when borrowers will concretely feel the weight of this increase in their payments.

The upward trend in interest rates may worsen in the coming months. Analysts warn that consumers should prepare for even higher costs with mortgage lending.

BYD returns to profit with bet on exports to Europe and gains ground in Portugal

BYD returned to quarterly profit growth in Q2 2025, with net profit rising 30% to 8.2 billion yuan, breaking a four-quarter decline streak. This recovery is largely due to strong export expansion, which grew 71% in the first half, accounting for 44% of the company's total sales. Europe is one front of this strategy, and Portugal serves as a concrete example of this expansion: the brand sold 6,059 vehicles in 2025, a 94.1% increase from the previous year, achieving a 2.7% share of the Portuguese passenger car market and 9.4% in the electric segment. BYD surpassed 10,000 vehicles sold since entering Portugal in 2023, representing more than half of Chinese brand sales in the country. Despite the positive signal, the accumulated results for the first half show that pressure in the Chinese domestic market persists, and the company faces challenges related to trade policies, distribution costs, and the response from traditional European manufacturers.

Clicks are no longer enough: what Google and YouTube want from brands in 2026

Google and YouTube are redefining their expectations for brands in 2026, abandoning the traditional focus on the number of clicks and views. The new video strategy prioritizes metrics such as audience retention, quality of titles and thumbnails, and the ability to adapt to different consumption formats. Brands now need to think of a more sophisticated approach that goes beyond view counts to ensure relevance on the platforms.
