Brazil's Federal Revenue Service, in partnership with the Federal Police and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, has intensified the repression of consulting firms that commercialize false tax credits, having dismantled, through Operations Títulos Podres, Obsidiana and Quimera Fiscal, schemes that caused more than R$ 1.6 billion in damages to public coffers. The investigations reveal that these fraudulent consulting firms induce good-faith companies into filing Compensation Declarations based on nonexistent, time-barred, or fabricated assets, exposing them to qualified fines and other sanctions.
