The NSX Brasil group, owner of the betting platform Betnacional, was the target of Operation Shadow Game, launched this Friday by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and the Federal Revenue. The operation investigates suspected crimes of tax evasion, currency evasion, and money laundering.
Betnacional ranks among the top ten betting sites in the country and has sponsorship deals with football clubs like Cruzeiro and Sport Club Recife. Star player Vinícius Jr. serves as the platform's spokesperson.
The platform is controlled by NSX, the Brazilian arm of the British conglomerate Flutter, whose shares are listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Altogether, Flutter's list of sports betting companies includes 14 platforms, with two in Brazil: Betnacional and Betfair.
Brazil is considered a priority growth market for the Flutter group, which seeks to expand its operations in the country. The operation by Brazilian authorities aims to investigate the company's financial flow and fiscal practices in the national territory.
