Chega's motion of censure is "doomed to fail", Judite Sousa argues

Now28 August 2026 at 23:28

The motion of censure presented by the Chega party is "doomed to fail", Judite Sousa defended on the NOW program. The political commentator stated that the Socialist Party, the main opposition party, will not vote in favor of the motion of censure.

This position by the Socialist Party makes the approval of the motion impossible, since a majority of favorable votes would be required for it to pass. The incumbent executive has the support of other parties in addition to PS.

Chega, a far-right party, has been using the strategy of presenting motions of censure as a form of opposition to the government. However, without the support of the Socialist Party, the initiative has no chance of succeeding.

Judite Sousa highlighted that the PS position demonstrates a strategy of not allowing Chega to benefit politically from a possible fall of the government, preferring to maintain political stability through the maintenance of the incumbent executive.
