Trump fails again to overturn conviction for hush money to porn star

RTP Notícias28 August 2026 at 23:10

A U.S. federal judge again rejected Donald Trump's attempt to overturn his conviction for hush money, denying today the request to transfer the case to a federal court and dismiss it based on presidential immunity.

Trump's conviction is related to paying money to a porn actress to silence an alleged extramarital affair during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The former president argued he should benefit from presidential immunity, which would allow dismissing the case or transferring it to a federal court where he would have more control over the proceedings.

The federal judge decided to keep the case's jurisdiction in the New York state court, not accepting Trump's defense arguments regarding immunity or the transfer of the case.

Analysis: Augusto Cury's diagnosis during the hearing is convincing. The remedy, not

The analysis highlights that candidate Augusto Cury made the most precise diagnosis among those who went through the hearing by newspapers O GLOBO and Valor and radio station CBN, identifying that Brazilians are tired of living in permanent election mode and are looking for someone who "turns down the volume." His messages about "adversaries not being enemies" and having "capitalist mind and social heart" were well received. However, the text questions whether Cury can present solutions on par with the diagnosis, pointing out that although he has ideas about changing the Supreme Court, integrating security forces, and improving the relationship between the Executive and Congress, there is still a gap between his convictions and execution capability.
