Aerial means are "the only possibility of rescue" after floods in Nepal

CNN Portugal28 August 2026 at 22:33

Aerial means are considered the only possibility of rescue after the floods in Nepal. The situation on the ground makes ground intervention impossible, making helicopters and other aerial equipment essential to reach people in hard-to-reach areas.

Mário Conde, commander of the Amadora Firefighters, considered that there may be people waiting for rescue in residential areas that were not flooded. These areas may be isolated due to the flooding, preventing the passage of ground rescue teams.

The commander warned of the possibility of people being trapped in places that appear not to have been directly affected by the waters, but that are surrounded by the flood.
