Only 22% of municipalities can prove spending on waste disposal in Piauí, TCE-PI report shows

The Court of Accounts of the State of Piauí (TCE-PI) revealed that only 22% of municipalities in Piauí can prove spending on waste disposal. The data was presented in a diagnosis by the court on solid waste management in the state.

The report shows that more than half of the urban solid waste in Piauí still has environmentally inadequate disposal. This percentage represents a quite critical situation in the environmental management of municipalities in Piauí.

The data is especially concerning when compared to the national average. The rate of inadequate waste disposal in the state is more than double the Brazilian average, showing a significant lag by Piauí in this area.

The diagnosis by TCE-PI raises questions about inspection and compliance with environmental obligations by the state's municipalities, which appear to face difficulties both in documenting their spending and in ensuring the correct disposal of waste produced by the population.
