PR promulgates extension of smartphone ban in schools up to 9th grade

The President of the Republic promulgated a decree that extends the ban on 'smartphones' in schools up to the 9th grade. The measure aims to restrict the use of mobile phones and similar devices in the school environment.

The new regulation takes effect on January 1st of next year, the date from which students from the 1st to the 9th grade will not be able to use these devices in schools.

This expansion represents an extension of previously implemented measures, which already restricted the use of smartphones in previous school years. The ban covers all basic education establishments covered by this level of schooling.

The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, stated on TVI's National Journal that the Government did not raise taxes in the two budgets presented and that it will not do so this time either.
