Minister Bruno Dantas decided to leave the Court of Accounts of the Union (TCU). The information was first reported by Veja magazine and confirmed by GLOBO. Dantas has already communicated the decision to the president of the Court, Vital do Rêgo, but has not yet defined the effective date of his resignation. The decision to leave the court early will open a vacancy to be filled by Senate appointment.
Dantas's departure could pave the way for the selection of Rodrigo Pacheco (PSB-MG) for the vacancy. A former president of the Senate, the congressman from Minas Gerais is at the end of his term and has already announced that he will leave politics at the end of his tenure in Congress. Pacheco's name has the support of the Senate president, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).
Pacheco was even considered for a position on the Supreme Court (STF), but President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva chose to indicate Jorge Messias, who was at the Attorney General's Office (AGU). That indication, however, was blocked by a vote in the Senate in late April.
As for Dantas, he is expected to move to the private sector. According to interlocutors heard by the press, the minister is already talking to companies but has not yet defined his professional destination after leaving the TCU.
