Algeria: deadly wildfires devastate northeast, government declares national mourning

Deadly wildfires devastated villages in the Algerian province of Jijel, located about 350 kilometres east of Algiers. The Algerian government declared national mourning in response to the tragedy.

Local residents are assessing the damage caused by the wildfires in their villages. Emergency teams are working on the ground to restore electricity in the affected areas and clear areas devastated by the fire.
