Algeria: deadly wildfires devastate northeast, government declares national mourning

Deadly wildfires devastated villages in the Algerian province of Jijel, located about 350 kilometres east of Algiers. The Algerian government declared national mourning in response to the tragedy.

Local residents are assessing the damage caused by the wildfires in their villages. Emergency teams are working on the ground to restore electricity in the affected areas and clear areas devastated by the fire.

Speed, illegal races and accidents: Cascais residents launch petition for safety on the Marginal

Residents of the Bairro Almirante Nunes da Mata neighborhood, in Cascais, launched a petition for safety on Avenida Marginal, which connects Lisbon to Cascais, already with more than 1,700 signatures in two weeks. The residents demand greater police enforcement, installation of speed cameras and heavier fines due to excessive speed, illegal races, noise and successive accidents, including fatal ones, problems that have been dragging on for years. The residents are collecting data on speeds practiced on the road, reaching 220 km/h, and are considering directing the petition to the Assembly of the Republic.
