Almost two years after being convicted for the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco and her driver Anderson Gomes, former military police officer Ronnie Lessa spoke for the first time about the case in an interview with the program Doc Investigação on Record TV, aired this Thursday.
During the conversation, Lessa revealed that the first target of the group responsible for the crime was politician Marcelo Freixo, who at the time was a Federal Deputy for PSOL. However, he denied that he would participate in an attack against Freixo.
The interview brought new information about the motives behind the crime. According to Lessa, Marielle Franco was interfering in the land division carried out by illegal lottery operators in Rio's West Zone, which displeased the group's leadership and, especially, Rogério de Andrade, who was responsible for administering the gambling spots in the region.
According to the former police officer, the councilwoman was getting in the way of land grabbing in the West Zone, which would have motivated the crime. Lessa is identified as the shooter who killed Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes in March 2018.
