Two employees die after contracting malaria at airport

About six Frankfurt Airport employees contracted malaria, two of whom died. The disease was probably contracted after the arrival of a sick passenger at the airport, according to initial investigations. Health authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the infection, which would have occurred on the airport premises. This is a rare case of local transmission of malaria in German territory, where the disease is not endemic.
