Hail, frost, fires and heat waves have already caused damages exceeding 441 million euros in Spanish agriculture this year

The climatic adversities that have affected Spain this year, including floods, hail, droughts and fires, have already resulted in compensation exceeding 441 million euros for the agricultural sector, according to data from the Agrupación Española de Entidades Aseguradoras de los Seguros Agrarios Combinados (Agroseguro).

Agroseguro officials met this week with the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, to report on the work carried out by the entity in response to these extreme weather events.

According to provisional data collected as of August 26, the insured area affected by these climate episodes already reaches 1.28 million hectares throughout the Spanish territory.

Hail, frost, fires and heat waves have been the main causes of the damages recorded in Spanish agriculture during the current year, according to the data presented by Agroseguro.
