The President of the Republic promulgated the decree that prohibits the use of smartphones in schools until the 9th grade. This measure is part of the set of amendments to the basic education law approved by parliament.
The decree prohibits the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices by students from 1st to 9th grade, both during classes and during breaks. The ban applies to all basic education establishments.
At the same time, the President also promulgated the amendments to the exceptional and temporary measures to address the shortage of teachers. These amendments aim to facilitate the hiring of teachers to meet the lack of professionals in education.
The set of decrees promulgated by the President of the Republic aims to address challenges identified in the Portuguese education system, including issues related to concentration and academic performance, as well as the need to ensure enough teachers for all schools.
