The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, avoided fueling the controversy with the Ministry of Defense over whether the CNI reported or not on the massive arrival of migrants to Ceuta at the end of July. Marlaska assured that state intelligence services always work correctly, thus trying not to inflame the conflict between the two ministries.
The official acknowledged, however, that not everything can be predicted, in an attempt to reconcile the defense of the functioning of the secret services with the admission of possible failures in anticipating the migratory flow.
The controversy arose after questioning whether the National Intelligence Center had or had not warned Spanish authorities about the mass arrival of migrants to the Spanish city of Ceuta during the month of July.
