The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, promulgated the decree that bans the use of smartphones in schools up to the 9th grade. The measure represents an extension of the ban that previously only applied to earlier school years.
The promulgation was made today, the date on which the decree was approved and sent for publication. This decision by the President of the Republic allows the law to come into force after its official publication.
António José Seguro, as President of the Republic, has the power to promulgate or veto decrees sent by the Assembly of the Republic. In this case, he chose to promulgate it without reservations.
The decree aims to regulate the use of mobile devices in Portuguese schools, extending smartphone restrictions to all students until they complete the 9th year of schooling.
