The Portuguese Environment Agency announced that the Foupana dam project, located in the Sotavento algarvio, in the municipality of Castro Marim, will be under public consultation between Monday and October 12. The APA informed through a statement that the Environmental Impact Assessment process for the project is underway, as established in Decree-Law No. 151-B/2013, of October 31.
During the public consultation period, the project documentation is available on the Participa portal. The agency stated that all opinions and suggestions submitted in writing will be considered, provided they are specifically related to the project under review. The submissions should be addressed to the president of the Portuguese Environment Agency until the end of the public consultation period.
The APA also highlighted that the licensing of the new dam can only be granted after the issuance of a Favourable or Conditionally Favourable Environmental Impact Statement, thus ensuring the completion of the environmental assessment process before any decision on construction.
