Genomics helps identify threatened fish more vulnerable to climate changes

Researchers at Flinders University in Australia led a study that uses genomics to identify threatened fish more vulnerable to climate changes.

The study analyzed Nannoperca australis, a small freshwater fish that is threatened with extinction.

This fish currently survives in isolated populations in the Murray-Darling river basin, which makes the research particularly relevant for the conservation of the species.

The results demonstrate that genomics can be an effective tool to identify which populations of threatened fish face the greatest risk from climate changes.
