Iceland celebrates a referendum to decide whether to reopen accession negotiations with the European Union, suspended since 2013 and frozen in 2015, when 27 of the 33 chapters had already been opened, except those on fisheries and agriculture. Voting began at the end of July and concludes on August 29. According to estimates from public channel RUV, the yes vote has a slim lead with 53% of the votes, although in the final stretch the percentage has been reduced to 51%, with a high percentage of undecided voters that keeps uncertainty about the result.
