The São Sebastião viaduct in Areosa has already reopened

Rádio Alto Minho28 August 2026 at 16:51

The São Sebastião viaduct, located in Areosa, has already reopened to traffic after being closed for some time. The closure was due to water accumulation in the passage, a situation caused by the heavy rains that hit the region.

The Parish Council of Areosa explained that the problem resulted from a failure in the water extraction pump, which could not adequately drain the accumulated water. This situation made it impossible to circulate in safe conditions.

After the repair of the pump and the verification of the safety conditions, the viaduct was reopened to traffic. The local authorities ensured that only after all necessary conditions were met was the reopening authorized.

The Parish Council of Areosa expressed its gratitude to the population for the understanding shown during the period the passage remained closed.
