What is the West Nile Virus and what signs should you be aware of

The West Nile Virus is causing alerts throughout Europe, having already caused the death of 39 people in the region. This virus is primarily transmitted through bites from infected mosquitoes and can represent a significant risk to public health.

Although no cases have been registered in Portugal yet, Portuguese health authorities maintain active surveillance given the spread of the virus in other European countries. The situation is being closely monitored to ensure a rapid response should infections appear in the country.

Regarding the signs people should be aware of, the most common symptoms include fever, headaches, fatigue, nausea, and skin rashes. In most cases, the infection is asymptomatic, but in more serious situations, it can lead to severe neurological complications.

Baltic countries create joint drone defense force
