Warsh warns that Fed will have "work to do" if inflation persists. Investors reinforce bets on interest rate hikes

Kevin Warsh, chairman of the United States Federal Reserve, warned on Friday that the central bank will have "work to do" if monetary policy makers are not confident that underlying inflation is returning to the 2% target. The remarks were made during a speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium in Wyoming, where Warsh stressed that "that is our function, our mandate, and our responsibility."

Warsh, who was nominated by Donald Trump in January and took office in May, said that progress over the past two years has been modest. The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, the Fed's preferred gauge, stood at 3.7% on an annual basis in July. "Recent data does not indicate to me that underlying trends have improved significantly," he lamented.

Investors reacted immediately, reinforcing bets on interest rate hikes. The odds of a hike at the September 15-16 meeting rose to almost 50%, compared to around 40% recorded on Friday morning. The two-year Treasury yield rose to its highest level in about a month, while stock markets extended gains slightly.

Warsh did not directly address recent market interventions by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, but said the central bank "needs clear signals from the market, as unfiltered as possible." The Fed has yet to move the Federal Funds Rates this year, with the cost of the dollar remaining at 3.50%-3.75%.

“Caso contrário, temos trabalho a fazer.”

Private label is no longer exclusive to large retail chains

Private labels, which already represent a significant share of sales in European retail, are expanding in Brazil and are no longer exclusive to large retail chains. Medium-sized companies have started developing exclusive products directly with Chinese manufacturers, creating a complete brand process that includes technical specifications, packaging, and visual identity. This change is occurring amid intense price competition on major marketplaces, where product differentiation has become essential for those who do not want to compete solely on price. Data from NielsenIQ shows that nearly 70% of Brazilians consider private labels a good alternative to traditional brands, and 72% associate them with good value for money.
