Alice Ruiz is a poet who marked Brazilian poetry of the last 70 years, with verses that transcended the pages of books and reached the public through set-to-music poems and compositions. Even those who don't directly know her work have probably sung or heard her words. On this Wednesday, August 26, at 80 years old, the poet was awarded the Tradições Trophy 2026 in São Paulo, at Casa de Francisca, an award granted by the Brazilian Union of Composers (UBC) to women who played a relevant role in the history of Brazilian music.
In previous editions of the trophy, Anastácia, Dona Onete, Lia de Itamaracá, Alaíde Costa and Rosa Passos were honored. The award aims to draw attention to the figure of the woman composer, which has been increasingly hidden by digital platforms, that do not properly register the authorship credits of the songs they reproduce and profit from.
