Portuguese footwear exports recorded a 2.1% decline in the first half, totaling 813 million euros. This value represents a decrease compared to the same period last year.
According to the industry association, this drop was, however, smaller than that recorded by Italy and Spain, Portugal's two main competitors in the European footwear market. In other words, despite the decline, Portugal managed to perform better than its main rivals.
The footwear sector is one of the most relevant exporting sectors for the Portuguese economy, and maintaining a competitive position against Italy and Spain is considered a positive indicator under the adverse market conditions.
