Summer isn't over: temperatures set to warm up again next week

SAPO28 August 2026 at 13:17

Summer isn't over in Portugal. After a period of milder temperatures, heat is returning next week, marking the beginning of September with a significant rise in temperatures.

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts that temperatures will remain above normal across the entire mainland territory over the coming days, contradicting the expectation of cooler weather typical of this time of year.

This meteorological situation is part of an increasingly frequent late heat pattern, with high temperatures persisting beyond what would be expected for the end of summer.

Portuguese people can therefore expect days of sun and intense heat, with IPMA recommending special precautions due to the high temperatures, especially for the most vulnerable groups.
