Portuguese footwear exports registered a 2.1% decline in the first half of the year, totaling 813 million euros by June. This figure represents a decrease compared to the same period the previous year.
Despite the decline, Portugal achieved a better performance than its main European competitors. Spain and Italy, rival markets in the footwear sector, recorded declines greater than those recorded by Portugal during the same period.
The Footwear Sector Association acknowledged that geopolitical conflicts have been affecting the so-called "fashion value chain." This situation has negatively impacted the sector's export activity globally.
