Quercus environmentalists oppose kaolin and clay mining exploration in Peniche. The environmental organization appealed to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) to issue an unfavorable Environmental Impact Statement or, alternatively, suspend the entire process until more detailed studies are conducted. The request comes following a public consultation process on the mining exploration project. The environmentalists list environmental, landscape, and land use planning concerns to support the request for rejection or suspension of the project.
The APA will now have to decide on the request submitted by Quercus, in a process that involves assessing the potential environmental impacts of mining exploration in the Peniche region.
