Smartwatches and smart rings should not be used to diagnose diseases, warns ANVISA

oglobo28 August 2026 at 13:10

Smart rings and smartwatch watches, sold with the promise of monitoring health, are becoming increasingly common in the market. The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) issued a new alert on Thursday (27th) warning that these devices should not be used to diagnose diseases.

According to the regulatory agency, the information provided by a smart ring should not be used to confirm or rule out a disease, define treatments, change medications, or replace exams and evaluations performed by health professionals.

The agency's alert also clarifies that an indicator shown by the device does not, by itself, mean that the person is sick. Similarly, results considered "normal" by the device do not guarantee that there are no health problems.

On International Gamers Day, tomorrow August 29th, ESET warned about growing cybersecurity risks in the video game universe, where scammers use fake offers of skins, free virtual currencies, phishing pages, cheats, mods and in-game messages to access players' accounts, personal data and money. The company highlighted that gaming accounts, which often contain digital goods and payment methods, are attractive targets, and that seemingly normal dialogues can evolve into fraudulent proposals, asking players to use unique passwords, multi-factor authentication, only buy through official channels and keep security software updated. ESET also mentioned a recent case of the ScarCruft group that exploited a video game platform for targeted cyber espionage in the Yanbian region.
