Children and mobile phone use: how to delay giving the first smartphone

Noticias de Arronches28 August 2026 at 13:09

A study by the Digital Observatory, conducted by the SaveFamily organization, revealed that 42% of children up to eight years of age already have access to a mobile phone. This data highlights a growing trend of early exposure of young children to mobile devices.

Excessive screen use is associated with several problems in children, including sleep difficulties, social isolation, behavioral changes, cognitive problems, and greater exposure to online risks. These negative effects are a concern for parents and specialists.

To help delay giving children their first smartphone, SaveFamily recommends that parents be persistent in their educational approach. The organization also suggests implementing consistent rules within the family environment.

Additionally, SaveFamily emphasizes the importance of adults setting an example, recommending that parents avoid excessive use of their own electronic devices when in front of their children.

Smartwatches and smart rings should not be used to diagnose diseases, warns ANVISA

The National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) issued a warning on Thursday (27th) advising that smart rings and smartwatch watches should not be used to diagnose diseases. The agency clarified that the information provided by these devices should not be used to confirm or rule out illnesses, define treatments, change medications, or replace exams performed by health professionals. The alert also highlights that an indicator shown by the device does not necessarily mean that the person is sick, just as results considered "normal" do not guarantee the absence of health problems.
