The Sorraia River Beach, located in the municipality of Coruche, was temporarily prohibited for swimming by decision of the Regional Health Delegate of Lisbon and Tagus Valley. The prohibition was determined after the Portuguese Environment Agency communicated the results of a recently collected water sample, which revealed the existence of microbiological contamination.
The Municipal Council of Coruche clarified that the prohibition is temporary and specific, remaining in effect only until new analyses confirm compliance with the legal parameters required for bathing use. The municipality called on the public to respect the prohibition and the signage posted at the site.
The river beach will remain closed until new analyses of the water quality are carried out and the results demonstrate that the water meets the legal requirements for bathing. The Municipal Council committed to providing further information to the public as soon as conditions are met for lifting the measure and the consequent reopening of the beach.
