Congo starts vaccination against fastest-spreading Ebola outbreak

The Democratic Republic of Congo has launched a vaccination campaign against a rapidly spreading Ebola outbreak, in a race to contain the spread of the disease before it spreads further.

The Congolese health authorities are using a vaccine already proven against a related strain of the Ebola virus. This approach allows for an immediate response using a tool with demonstrated efficacy.

Simultaneously, clinical trials are underway for a new vaccine dose specifically created for the Bundibugyo virus, the strain responsible for the current outbreak. This experimental vaccine aims to offer more targeted protection against this specific variant of Ebola.

The urgency in implementing the vaccination is related to the speed of the outbreak's spread, which has put health authorities on maximum alert given the potential for disease transmission.
