Carlos Cabreiro, director of the Judicial Police, was reported to the Public Prosecutor on suspicion of abuse of power and perjury, in a case related to the "Football Leaks" process, involving whistleblower Rui Pinto.
The report was filed by David Freitas, criminal investigation coordinator at the PJ, who accuses Cabreiro of having ordered or participated in the use of conversation recording means without the proper judicial authorization, within the scope of the investigations into the Football Leaks case.
In court, Carlos Cabreiro and other PJ inspectors allegedly stated that there had been no environmental recording, contradicting Freitas's accusations.
The Football Leaks process became known for revealing confidential documents about financial practices in international football, with Rui Pinto being considered a central figure in the disclosure of those documents.
