Invasive Marine Species in Portugal Increased by 75% in 10 Years

Invasive marine species in Portugal increased by 75% in ten years, according to a new updated survey. The study analyzed non-indigenous species or introduced species in Portuguese coastal waters, including estuaries, coastal areas, coastal lagoons, and considered both the mainland and the islands.

The research was conducted by the Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences, known as Mare. Paula Chainho, a specialist at this institution, revealed the data to the Lusitana news agency, explaining that this study represents an update to a previous survey carried out a decade ago.
