The Federal Senate suspended indefinitely the activities of the legislative house's kennel following the death of veterinarian Vitória Valle de Oliveira Pinha, 36 years old, who was attacked by a dog at the site last Saturday. The professional did not survive the injuries caused by the animal. The Senate reported that the measure aims to "reassess procedures and guidelines for the service" and that the investigations into the incident continue with the competent bodies, in accordance with applicable legal procedures.
The dogs that were provided by the legislative police officers themselves are to be returned to their respective owners. The Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories decided this Thursday that the inquiry into the case should fall under Federal Justice jurisdiction, changing the authority that previously belonged to the civil police, which was investigating the case as a "work accident."
According to the Civil Police, forensics at the scene were conducted, however not all technical reports are available at this time. The Regional Council of Veterinary Medicine also expressed interest in the case following the professional's death.
