UEFA prepares criminal complaint against Gianni Infantino for «mismanagement»

UEFA is preparing a criminal complaint against the FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, for mismanagement, as part of an internal investigation that has been ongoing for several months. The complaint is related to the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, an initiative aimed at commercializing the football World Cup rights.

UEFA, as the main regulatory body of European football, made this decision after analyzing documentation related to FIFA's commercial structure. The process was conducted confidentially, with the collaboration of specialized legal services.

Gianni Infantino, who has been president of FIFA since 2016, is the main target of this criminal complaint. The FIFA Forward Enterprise project is said to have been created outside the usual governance mechanisms of the institution, raising questions about transparency and conflicts of interest.

This complaint comes in a context of tension between UEFA and FIFA, particularly regarding commercial issues and the distribution of revenues from major football tournaments. UEFA's internal investigation is said to have identified irregularities that justify resorting to legal proceedings.
