Infraestruturas de Portugal announced restrictions on heavy vehicle traffic at the Monfortinho border crossing, in the district of Castelo Branco, for 15 days. The measure prohibits the passage of heavy vehicles between 7am and 7pm, affecting the national roads EN 239 and EN 240. The ban is due to construction work carried out on the Spanish side of the border, near the former Monfortinho crossing, in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, which restricts access to the Spanish road EX-108 up to the bridge over the Erges river. This is one of the main links used by heavy vehicles and freight transport between Portugal and Spain.

Uma das principais ligações rodoviárias utilizadas por veículos pesados entre Portugal e Espanha vai estar sujeita a restrições de circulação durante os próximos 15 dias. A medida afeta a ligação através de Monfortinho, no distrito de Castelo Branco, e impede a passagem de pesados entre as 7 h e as 19 h.

A limitação está relacionada com trabalhos que estão a ser realizados do lado espanhol da fronteira e tem impacto direto na circulação nas estradas nacionais EN 239 e EN 240, segundo informação divulgada pela Infraestruturas de Portugal.

Restrição afeta uma ligação utilizada por pesados

De acordo com a agência de notícias Lusa, a circulação de veículos pesados na via espanhola encontra-se interdita durante o período definido pelas autoridades. A restrição aplica-se entre as 7 h e as 19 h ao longo dos próximos 15 dias.

A medida não resulta de uma alteração permanente às condições de circulação na fronteira. Está associada a trabalhos que decorrem junto à antiga fronteira de Monfortinho, no concelho de Idanha-a-Nova, e que condicionam o acesso à ligação rodoviária entre os dois países.

A intervenção tem consequências para o tráfego que utiliza as estradas portuguesas EN 239 e EN 240. Estas vias fazem parte do percurso de quem utiliza esta passagem fronteiriça para chegar a Espanha, incluindo o transporte de mercadorias.

Estrada espanhola termina junto ao rio Erges

A estrada espanhola EX-108 assume particular importância neste percurso. A via pertence à Junta da Extremadura e prolonga-se até à fronteira portuguesa, terminando na ponte sobre o rio Erges, em Monfortinho.

É precisamente nesta zona que estão a decorrer os trabalhos que motivaram a interdição temporária. A proximidade da passagem fronteiriça faz com que qualquer condicionamento na via espanhola tenha reflexos na circulação do lado português.

A Lusa refere que esta é uma das principais ligações utilizadas por veículos pesados para chegar a Espanha. Por esse motivo, a restrição durante o período diurno poderá afetar sobretudo o tráfego de mercadorias que habitualmente atravessa esta zona.
