Portugal's Minister of Health officially acknowledged a widespread shortage of specialist anesthesiologists throughout the country, with a particular impact on the Lisbon region. The Medical Union of the Southern Zone classified the situation as alarming at the São José Local Health Unit, warning that the shortage of professionals is significantly compromising the functioning of emergency services and the quality of care provided to patients.
