Ratko Mladić, known as the "Butcher of Bosnia," died at age 78 on Thursday, August 27. The former Bosnian Serb military commander was convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for war crimes and crimes against humanity, including responsibility for the Srebrenica massacre in 1995, which resulted in the death of about 8,000 Muslim men and boys. During the Bosnian War (1992-1995), Mladić was the main architect of the "ethnic cleansing" that led to the death of more than 100,000 people and the displacement of millions of civilians.
