Alison dos Santos became the first Brazilian to set a world record in track and field events since João do Pulo in 1975, by winning the 400 meters hurdles at the Zurich stage of the Diamond League with the time of 45.80, surpassing the 45.94 of Norwegian Karsten Warholm, Olympic gold medalist in Tokyo 2021. The feat ends an interval of almost 51 years without Brazil setting a world best in athletics, since João Carlos de Oliveira jumped 17.89m in the triple jump at the Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1975.
