Alison dos Santos, aka Piu, set a new world record in the 400 meters hurdles by clocking 45.80 at the Zurich stage of the Diamond League, breaking the previous mark of 45.94 by Norwegian Karsten Warholm, Olympic gold medalist at Tokyo 2021. With this feat, Brazil returns to the athletics world record book after nearly 51 years, since João do Pulo achieved the mark of 17.89m in the triple jump at the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City. Alison defeated Warholm himself at the Swiss event, who finished in second place with 46.69.
