Marquinhos wins unprecedented Uefa 'respect' award for comforting Gabriel Magalhães in Champions final

Brazilian defender Marquinhos, captain of PSG, won the unprecedented award "UEFA Respect: Beyond the Game" for having comforted Gabriel Magalhães, also Brazilian and a player of Arsenal, after he missed a penalty in the Champions League final. PSG were crowned champions of that edition after a penalty shootout. Marquinhos could not attend the ceremony in Switzerland, held during the Champions League draw, due to a commitment by PSG in the French Championship against Lille. In a video sent to UEFA, the player celebrated the award stating that he will continue to be respectful with teammates, opponents, and referees.
