Gabriel Maia, an athlete from Famalicão affiliated with Sporting, was the highest scorer in the Portuguese Meetings Circuit, organized by the Portuguese Athletics Federation, accumulating 4336 points in the men's sector. The sprinter recently represented Portugal at the European Athletics Championships held in England.
FC Porto and Sporting will learn their opponents in the first phase of the Champions League this Thursday in Monaco, in a draw that will define the eight groups of the competition. The group stage will begin between September 8 and 10 and will continue until the end of January, in a calendar that spans much of the sporting season.
The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, from UAE Emirates, won the sixth stage of the Vuelta a España by beating Spanish rider Enric Mas, from Movistar, in a sprint finish at Castelló de la Plana, thereby reinforcing his lead in the overall standings of the race.
The Dutch striker Luuk de Jong visited Olival, FC Porto's training center, on his birthday. The visit of the player, who has already represented the Porto club, was received by the squad and marked a special occasion for the Dutchman.
In a stage of great demand for Emirates and for João Almeida, Tadej Pogacar launched an attack on the final climb, but was caught by Enric Mas and nearly crashed on the descent. However, the Slovenian recovered and defeated the Spaniard in the sprint, thus securing his third stage victory (hat-trick) in the race.
