One of the largest military cargo aircraft landed today at Madeira Airport

A Royal Canadian Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster landed this afternoon at Madeira Airport, coming from Porto. The reason for the stopover in the Region has not yet been revealed. This military cargo aircraft is one of the largest cargo planes in the world, with a capacity of 77 tons, capable of transporting vehicles, helicopters, cargo pallets and troops. The aircraft has four engines and measures about 53 meters in length and wingspan.

Tragedy in Nepal. Portuguese authorities do not rule out possibility of more missing people

Portuguese authorities are not ruling out the possibility that more Portuguese nationals may be missing following a tragedy in Nepal, according to statements made by Emídio Sousa to RTP. In the coming days, Castelo Branco hosts "International Biennial of Arts and Crafts" with participation from Portugal, Brazil and Cape Verde

Castelo Branco hosts on September 4th and 5th the first edition of the International Biennial of Arts and Crafts, at the Centre for Contemporary Culture, bringing together representatives from Portugal, Brazil, and Cape Verde. The event, promoted by the Municipal Council under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, is part of the Flavours of Perdição Festival and includes round tables on local identity, creative economy, and the Embroidery of Castelo Branco, as well as the exhibition "The World Embroidered by Hand" and guided visits to MUTEX. The program features specialists and institutions from the three Lusophone countries, debating themes such as heritage preservation, innovation in traditional arts, entrepreneurship, and the internationalization of creative industries.

Book by António Horta-Osório about antique chess collection wins award in the USA

The first volume of the book collection dedicated to ancient chess sets by António Horta-Osório won the Best Book of 2026 award, in its respective category, granted by the Chess Journalists of America. The work, dedicated to pieces from the Indian subcontinent, has 424 pages and more than 200 high-resolution photographs, being the first of six volumes planned to document the collection of the Portuguese banker, which brings together more than 600 ancient chess sets from various regions of the world. The second volume, dedicated to East Asia and Southeast Asia, is expected to be published by the end of 2026.
