Thefts and vandalism delay certification of the Évora–Elvas line until 2027

DianaFM27 August 2026 at 14:43

The certification of the new railway line between Évora and Elvas has been postponed to early 2027 due to thefts and acts of vandalism that caused damage to catenary equipment, signaling, and telecommunications systems. The Ministry of Infrastructure confirmed that the crimes forced changes to the planning of dynamic tests. The 460 million euro project, part of the southern international corridor, is also experiencing delays due to a shortage of independent assessment entities and the technological innovation installed, which complicates the validation process.
