She achieved international stardom after decades of living in a psychiatric hospital, where she developed her psychedelic and eccentric art. According to a statement on her official website, Kusama died in a hospital in Tokyo on August 14, with the cause of death not specified. The note highlights that she continued painting until her last days, never letting go of the brush, dedicating her entire life to artistic creation. Born as the youngest daughter of a middle-class Japanese family, Kusama moved to New York at age 27, where she built an internationally acclaimed career as a pioneer of the artistic avant-garde.
